Meet The Founder

Hello, I am Amanda Rose-Horne, the founder of Bell Maple Therapy, a private psychotherapy practice that I established to meet the needs of maternal wellness in my community.  I am a graduate of University of Michigan’s Master of Social Work program where I learned a wide variety of psychological theory and clinical practices which prepared me to work with parents, infants and children. I have been working with women during the transition to parenthood in research or clinical capacities for the past 18 years.

I was born and raised in Northern Michigan and traveled widely in my twenties; attending University of Stirling in Scotland for a study abroad stint, Western Michigan University to gain a BA, and Northern Arizona University to earn an MA in Cultural Anthropology. My intellectual curiosity and relational curiosity are defining character traits.  My quest for understanding women’s diverse life experiences includes exploring cross-cultural birth practices in Peru and attending births as an emotional support companion (doula) in the American southwest.

After many years of adventure, my husband and I returned to put down roots in Michigan. We wanted to raise our children among the rivers, trees and lakes of our own childhoods. We landed in southeast Michigan where I established my clinical license and began to focus on direct clinical practice with families. I have experience screening mothers at high risk for postpartum depression and anxiety in hospital settings, experience in Wayne County as an Infant Mental Health therapist, experiences providing Child-Parent Psychotherapy to address Post-traumatic Stressors in families, and expertise in a wide variety of approaches ideal for Perinatal Psychotherapy in office settings.

These life experiences have given me a deep understanding of the biological, cultural, social and psychological components of women’s lives in the birthing years. I put value in lived experiences as well; I have three children who have journeyed with me as I became a mother, recovered from postpartum stressors and stepped into a confident, empowered place in my mothering role. Mothering is an art, a deep love and a life-long commitment.

Many women have periods of isolation, uncertainty and overwhelm as they encounter the challenges of motherhood. That's why I founded Bell Maple Therapy: to help women know that they are not alone, they can be well supported emotionally during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and child rearing years and, especially, to provide non-judgmental, compassionate therapeutic care as women heal, recover and discover their mothering identities.

When I’m not working, I enjoy going on nature walks with my family, watercolor painting, reading historical fiction novels, kayaking on the Huron River, practicing yoga and meditation, and enjoying a good cup of coffee with friends.
